Message to Parents and Carers:

How wonderful it is to see you all again! It has been, since lock-down, a long and challenging few months, but it has been a pleasure to have the children back over the past couple of weeks, already working hard, learning, being able to see their friends again and familiarising themselves with the routines of school life.

We understand that for many these are difficult times and that some of you will have questions and worries. As a team, we are working hard to ensure the school environment is as safe as possible. Endeavour and Matthew class exist in their own bubble on the main school site, though taught separately. The staggered starts/ends are there to ensure we minimise contact across the school community. It may seem strange to not be able to have our usual chats at the start or end of the school day with the new drop-off system, but please remember we can always arrange meetings via the school office. Thank you so much for respecting the social distancing rules, and for getting your children to line up so brilliantly outside of our school gates. We are very proud of them!

We ask that children keep the items brought from home to a minimum. A coat/jacket, P.E. kit and book bag on the relevant days, water bottle and (if relevant) a packed lunch is all they need. They do not need to bring a school bag. Pencil cases and class texts are provided by the school. If you wish your child to bring in anything extra, please check with the office first. Wherever possible, we shall deliver letters, spellings, etc., electronically to reduce items going back and forth from the school.

For our Year 6s, our staff will be working hard to ensure the children achieve to the best of their abilities by helping prepare them for the upcoming SATs examinations in May. Your child is supported with the excellent help of our class LSA, Mrs Kassous.

Furthermore, we will provide as much information and support about transfer to secondary school as we can.

Spanish, P.S.H.E. and P.E.

This academic year, we are lucky to have Miss Martinez teaching Endeavour every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. She will be delivering Spanish, Maths, PSHE and P.E. We are pleased to welcome Miss Cooper and Mr Sage, from Progressive Sports, who will also be teaching P.E. to Endeavour.

All children will need a P.E. kit for school (navy / black shorts or joggers, white t - shirt and trainers). Could you please ensure that all their P.E. kit (as well as school uniform) are named. P.E. is on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. The P.E. kits can stay on the children’s pegs Wednesday evenings, to be brought home after school Thursday. Currently, as we continue to assess the situation, there are no plans for swimming this academic year.

Expectations of Homework

Your child will still be set weekly spellings on a Monday (via email wherever possible); we ask they learn these words ready for a spelling test on the Friday of the same week. These include words from the curriculum’s Year 5/6 spelling list, which can be viewed online here:

They will also be given a weekly task linked to a class text or the Enquiry theme. Details will be provided weekly in your child's book bag, which goes home on a Friday and is brought back the following Friday for checking.

Your child currently has a class text to read at home (The Last Wild) as well as another reading book appropriate to their level. These books will stay at home and should only come into school when they have finished it. If at all possible, please ensure your child reads regularly at home with a book that stays at home. Your child has weekly expectations for reading record entries (at least 4 entries a week).

If you need access to more books, many of the major libraries have reopened (but also please let the main office know if this is not possible).  The leadership team are currently looking into possible online resources for your child to access texts electronically (more details forthcoming).

Reading Recommendations

Please find below recommended book lists for our class. Although some of these books are "picture books" or graphic novels, they have been selected due to their - sometimes - challenging vocabulary and thematic content, wholly appropriate for these age groups.

Further information

Due to the current situation, all trips, visits from volunteers, etc., have been put on hold. Assemblies are delivered remotely, in class and within the bubbles, via Zoom or through videos. We hope soon to be able to invite parents/carers remotely to our weekly praise services so you can join us to celebrate the outstanding learners and upholders of our school values.

Please feel free to contact the office if you have any questions or concerns and we will make every effort to arrange a convenient time for discussion. Due to the current situation, and our commitment in ensuring we keep our school community as safe as possible, this discussion will most likely have to take place via Zoom; if an online meeting is not possible for you, please let us know.

Children are to be dropped off promptly at 8:40 outside the main blue gate, and are to be collected from blue gate by the car park every day at 3.10. If you are happy for your child to walk home, you will need to provide written permission to the class teacher/office.
