Early Years and Foundation Stage (EYFS) at St George Church of England Primary School

At St George Church of England Primary School we aim to develop and broaden the range of children's learning experiences, to nurture confident, eager and enthusiastic learners who look forward to school.

We hope to play our part by treating your child as an individual and offering him/her a variety of experiences and activities, which are designed to further their development process.

Much of the children's learning will be through play where children are offered a range of activities each with an underlying educational purpose. Play is the means by which the children explore a variety of experiences in different situations for a range of purposes. It is an approach that provides the children with a way of learning about the world around them.

At St George we ensure a balance of adult and child-led activities. We teach children in many different ways to ensure all learning styles are considered. We teach the children as a whole class, in groups, and when needed one-to-one as well.

EYFS Assessment

Assessments will be based primarily on observation of daily activities and events. Practitioners in reception carry out observations of children in a variety of contexts in their indoor and outdoor learning. We record our observations using an online learning diary called ‘Tapestry’. Each child also has a Learning Diary Scrapbook to ensure the balance between photographs and real examples of work. Our assessments come from a range of perspectives including those of the child, parents and all the adults that interact with the children in reception.

EYFS Curriculum

The children in Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stages curriculum. This is based on three prime and four specific areas of learning, and the three characteristics of effective learning set out below;
